Your FIRE number
Financial independence comes down to one number: enough invested that it pays your bills forever. Here's yours — and roughly how far away it is — in today's dollars.
“Real return” = return after inflation. Everything here is in today's dollars, so the answer means the same in future money.
About 28.3 years away — roughly age 63.3, if you keep investing $25K/yr at 5% real.

Retirement / superannuation results are shown in today's dollars (adjusted for the assumed inflation rate below) and are not a guarantee or projection of your actual future benefits.
Assumptions used →
- FIRE number = yearly spending ÷ withdrawal rate (e.g. 4% → 25× spending). The 4% rule is a US-based heuristic, not a guarantee.
- Everything is in today's dollars. Use a REAL (after-inflation) return — the result already accounts for inflation.
- Assumes steady contributions and a constant return; real markets vary year to year, and sequence-of-returns risk matters near retirement.
- Includes super in 'invested now', but super is preservation-age locked — you generally can't access it before 60, so true 'retire early' needs assets outside super too.
- Ignores tax on withdrawals/earnings, the Age Pension, and changes to your spending. A licensed adviser can model your actual situation.
